West Indies Woman overjoyed to learn that they’ve advanced to World Cup semi-finals

After South Africa defeated India, the West Indies Women's team screamed in excitement, confirming their position in the semi-finals.

The fate of the West Indies Women in the ICC Women's World Cup 2022 hung in the balance when India and South Africa faced off in the tournament's last league stage encounter on Sunday. India Women had six points going into the match, while West Indies had seven points after their league stage matches. If India defeats South Africa, they will proceed to the semi-finals of the tournament, leapfrogging the Windies. So it's no wonder that Stafanie Taylor and the rest of the team were keeping a close eye on the India-South Africa match.

The game was down to the final over, and after a lot of drama, including a wicket off a no-ball, South Africa won with the last delivery.

The West Indies Women's team shouted in ecstasy as Mignon du Preez hit the winning runs. Mignon du Preez anchored the Proteas chase while chasing 275 runs until being caught at long-on by Harmanpreet Kaur off the penultimate ball of the final over. Replays revealed that it was a front foot no-ball, and she was given a mercy. Du Preez eventually completed the mission for South Africa.

The players were shown dancing and screaming in delight when it was confirmed that they had advanced to the semi-finals in a video posted online by Cricket West Indies. The West Indies Women were tense and curious at the start of the clip, but their pleasure knew no boundaries once Mignon du Preez assisted South Africa in a last-ball thriller against India. As the fourth and final team to qualify for the semi-finals, the West Indies players instantly began dancing and hugging each other.

On March 30, the West Indies will face Australia in the first semifinal at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Meanwhile, on March 31, the reigning champions England will face South Africa at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
