Sri Lanka is in crisis, Asia Cup may be held in Bangladesh

Sri Lanka's political crisis is escalating day by day. Protesters attacked the president's residence, and people even burnt down the Prime Minister's house. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has already resigned in the face of protest.

In such a complex situation, it will be very difficult for Sri Lanka to host a mega-event like the Asia Cup. In particular, there are doubts about the safety of foreign players. In that situation, hosting the tournament in Sri Lanka is almost impossible. In that case, this event may be held in Bangladesh.

A source in the Lankan board told Indian media daily Jagran, "Players may not feel safe playing cricket in such an environment. Now it is impossible to host the Asia Cup 2022 in Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh seems to be ahead in hosting this event."

Earlier, Bangladesh hosted three consecutive Asia Cups from 2012 to 2016. Bangladesh also successfully hosted the T20 World Cup in 2014. In that tournament, Sri Lanka defeated India and clinched the title.

Apart from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan will participate in this year's Asia Cup. Who will play among the other Asian teams, UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong, which will be decided after the qualifiers. The probable schedule of the tournament is from 27th August to 11th September.
