Liam Dawson hammered six and a four as Islamabad United knocked down the target on the third ball of the last over. United defeated Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets in the first round of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season seven Eliminator.

Peshawar Zalmi senior Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik had been going strong previously until Zalmi had started sluggishly this time.

Mohammad Haris didn't put on a good display and was disqualified with a score of 12 points (8). Yasir Khan didn't live long either, scoring only eight points.

Kamran, 40, advanced and scored his first fifty in the HBL PSL this year, while Shoaib Malik pitched in with singles.

Shadab Khan, United's captain, got Kamran Akmal out in the 14th over. Kamran hit seven fours and two sixes in his 58-ball innings.

In the middle, Hussain Talat joined Malik, and the left-hander had a slightly different view. He scored 28 runs off only 15 balls, allowing Zalmi to put pressure on the United bowlers.

Until Hussain was eliminated by Hasan Ali, the duo had a 56-point combination. Malik, on the other hand, stayed in the match till the end, scoring his third half-century of the tournament. He hit a 55-ball 43.

Hasan Ali, who had missed the previous two matches due to injury, had a stunning 3/30. Faheem Ashraf took one as well, giving up 15 runs.

In response, United got off to a fast beginning thanks to Alex Hales. Despite losing Will Jacks (11) in the first six overs, they ended up scoring 53 runs.

Shadab, the skipper, stepped in at one down but didn’t manage to play for long. On the first ball of his stint, Shadab was removed by Salman Irshad. He hit 17 out of 22 balls.

Alex Hales went on to make an important fifty, but his deft innings was cut short. Irshad yorked him on the final ball of the 14th over. Salman repeated the same with Asif Ali in the following scene (7). Salman concluded with a brilliant score of 3/31.
